At Pinnacle Prevention, we recognize that the ability for people to nourish and move their bodies, which impacts their overall mental, emotional, and physical wellbeing, is deeply bound to the conditions of and resources available in their communities and their environment.

What is Smart Growth?

Pinnacle’s Smart Growth Arizona Initiative is working to bring attention to the fact that the ways that we envision, plan, design, build, and maintain our communities can either exacerbate existing health and social inequities or work to change current tides and thereby create a state that allows for all people to thrive for generations to come regardless of background, race, socioeconomic status, or geography.

The Smart Growth Arizona Guidebook provides a snapshot of the rate at which Arizona has grown historically, the impacts of said growth, and case studies from all corners of the state that challenge traditional development patterns. The guidebook, a culmination of an 18-month effort, showcases ways in which Arizona communities are going against the status quo to grow and develop in a people and environment-focused manner. Through the Guidebook’s six case studies, you’ll read about small businesses, urban farms, affordable housing options, walkable neighborhoods, public art, and authentic and meaningful approaches to community

City of Chandler: Waking up Wall St.

What if alleyways were for people, art, and connection rather than cars, dumpsters, and delivery trucks? What if alleyways helped cool the environment? In 2021, Pinnacle Prevention worked with the City of Chandler and the ASU School of Geographical Sciences and Urban Planning on the Waking up Wall St. Project, an initiative to help inform the redesign of a busy alleyway in Downtown Chandler.
